a complete hydrogen-electric propulsion system

Collaboration between Transfluid and Genevos has  develop a complete hydrogen-electric marine propulsion system.

Transfluid, a world leader in the production of power transmission units and electric motors, and Genevos, a leading specialist in marine fuel cell integration, have combined their expertise to develop a scalable zero emissions propulsion pack.

The partnership accelerates the growth of clean marine mobility by providing  turn-key hydrogen-electric propulsion systems based on maritime certified technologies. The complete system  includes Genevos’  AiP marine certified Hydrogen Power Module (HPM), and Transfluid’s specialized integration service, which includes marine certified batteries, electric motors, and transmissions.

Transfluid’s expansive portfolio in combination with the HPM offers solutions from 15kW to 500kW that are  customizable to specific vessel requirements. The system will offer both hydrogen-electric and hydrogen-electric-hybrid options to provide extended motoring range.

The merging of technologies fulfills Genevos’ key objective of simplifying the transition of  hydrogen energy into  the marine sector with  plug and play, and customized solutions. The combined expertise of the two companies allows clients to work with one team to streamline a vessel’s energy transition process.

This partnership is the consequence of Genevos’s selection of Transfluid’s DNV type approved batteries for integration with their HPM under the £2.2 million HIMET (Hydrogen in an Integrated Maritime Energy Transition) project to provide a zero emissions auxiliary power solution.  The new system will be trialed on-board a RoRo ferry in Orkney Islands.

Phil Sharp, CTO at Genevos commented:
“We are committed to supporting maritime decarbonization by providing scalable hydrogen-electric systems applicable to a diverse range of vessels from passenger ferries and service vessels to sailing and motor yachts.
“Together with Transfluid’s large product range will be able to offer customized solutions to optimize performance and efficiency. We very much look forward to working with Transfluid as part of the urgent need to reduce vessel emissions.”

Ugo Pavesi, President of Transfluid commented:
“Hydrogen is one of the most promising zero emission fuels to avoid polluting the air we breathe every day. The partnership with Genevos enables us to combine our expertise with certified, proven and advanced technologies to meet zero emissions maritime needs within the global market.”
